About Historic Environment Scotland
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is an executive non-departmental public body responsible for investigating, caring for and promoting Scotland's historic environment. It cares for more than 300 properties of national importance, including Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle and Skara Brae, and looks after internationally significant collections of drawings, manuscripts and images. HES also designates and protects heritage assets, provides conservation guidance and technical research, and invests grant funding in building repairs, ancient monuments and archaeological work.
