Building Surveyor (Chartered / Nearly Chartered)

About the Role

This is your opportunity to take the next step in your Building Surveying career within WSP's growing Property & Buildings team in Glasgow.

You'll be part of a dynamic and expanding team delivering a broad range of building surveying services across the UK. The portfolio includes education, healthcare, commercial and public sector estates, with a strong pipeline of framework-based and repeat client work. From delivering refurbishment and maintenance projects to advising on complex building defects and asset strategies, you'll play a key role in shaping and improving the built environment.

With 1–2 years' post-qualification experience, you'll already have a solid foundation—and here, you'll be trusted with greater responsibility, client exposure, and ownership of your work, while continuing to develop technically and professionally.

You'll be working on meaningful, often community-focused projects, giving you the opportunity to see the tangible impact of your work across the UK. This role forms part of WSP's continued growth, driven by long-term framework appointments and increasing demand for strategic building advice—offering you stability, project variety, and clear progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and undertake building surveys, condition assessments and defect diagnosis work
  • Deliver technical reports, specifications, and feasibility studies to a high standard
  • Manage and administer projects, including refurbishment and planned works programmes
  • Act as Contract Administrator, including site inspections, valuations, and progress reporting
  • Deliver dilapidations instructions and support negotiations where required
  • Contribute to asset management and lifecycle planning commissions
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and support business development activities
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, cost consultancy and sustainability

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Building Surveying or a RICS-accredited related discipline
  • MRICS qualified (or working towards with relevant progress)
  • 1–2 years' experience within a consultancy or similar environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of building construction, pathology, and refurbishment
  • Experience in project delivery and contract administration
  • Ability to manage your own workload and contribute to multiple commissions
  • Confident communication skills and ability to engage with clients and stakeholders

Location & Working Pattern

The role will be based in WSP's Glasgow office, with hybrid working arrangements. Site visits will be required as and when necessary, typically to support progress meetings and key commercial activities during the construction phase; this is not a site-based role.

Professional Development

WSP actively supports professional development and training, with mentoring from experienced colleagues.
