Business Development Manager – Private Hospital

Location: Spire Claremont Hospital, Sheffield S10 5UB Contract type: Permanent Hours: 37.5 hours per week – predominantly Monday–Friday 09:00–17:00, with potential evening/weekend working for events and business needs

About the role

Spire Claremont is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Business Development Manager to join our hospital teams and drive our growth strategy and business development plans. This new hospital role complements and works alongside our existing Hub Business Development team (Marketing, digital, PR, referrer engagement and sales).

The highly visible Business Development Manager will be a key contact for existing and prospective consultants. Results-driven and responsive, the role provides a range of support functions across the hospital and business development landscape, targeting activity growth and performance improvement.

About Spire Claremont Hospital

Spire Claremont Hospital has provided first-class independent healthcare at the heart of the South Yorkshire community since 1953. The hospital is situated among beautifully landscaped grounds in Crosspool, Sheffield, approximately 3 miles (about 20 minutes) south west of Sheffield city centre.

The hospital has 42 beds, three laminar flow theatres, 13 consulting rooms, a static MRI and CT scanner, and plain and digital X-ray facilities. It provides surgery and outpatients with diagnostic imaging services.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Be a highly visible member of the team seeking to identify and resolve issues and identify improvements for consultants, leading to increased activity and share of practice
  • Support the Hospital Director and Business Development Director to deliver business development initiatives with a specific focus on supporting the hospital's consultant body
  • Support the Hospital Director to identify and deliver emerging opportunities in line with the hospital growth strategy, including engaging with consultants to promote and develop their practice
  • Provide a robust framework of consultant practice reviews alongside relevant hospital teams and SMT to identify areas of growth from individual funders or referrers
  • Communicate the benefits and drive inclusion on various digital channels with insurers and customers
  • Promote the use of Business Development tools including direct PMI and online bookings, and facilitate Consultants signing up to PMI networks

Who we're looking for

  • Experience of working with consultant surgeons in a private or NHS setting
  • Understanding of the UK private healthcare system
  • Commercial awareness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Proactive, enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to work unsupervised
  • Competent user of MS Office
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
