Estates Surveyor – Commercial Land Management

Do your bit by joining our Commercial Land Management Team as an Estates Surveyor, based in Edinburgh.

What you will do

As an Estates Surveyor, you will provide professional property and estate management advice across a varied portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing disposals, leases, servitudes, wayleaves, and estate management matters
  • Occasional acquisitions
  • Supporting the administration of Scottish Water's non-domestic rates portfolio
  • Negotiating agreements with internal stakeholders and external customers
  • Instructing and managing external agents and solicitors
  • Providing practical property solutions that balance commercial, operational and customer requirements

You will be part of a skilled and supportive team, collaborating with colleagues across the business to deliver excellent outcomes and contribute to the effective management of one of Scotland's largest and most diverse property portfolios.

What you will need

Experience and qualifications

  • Plenty of experience and the right qualifications
  • Experience of managing a broad range of property matters, ideally including leasehold management, property transactions, land rights, estate management and valuation matters
  • Experience of business rates (advantageous, although not essential)
  • MRICS status, ideally within the Commercial Real Estate or Rural pathways
  • Relevant post-qualification experience across a range of commercial property and estate management matters

  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Sound commercial awareness
  • Pragmatic approach to problem-solving

  • Confident using IT systems
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills
  • A people person through and through

Pay and conditions

  • Grade: Grade 7
  • Starting salary: £45,699 (new to Scottish Water)
  • Salary range: Performance-driven pay progression to a maximum of £56,669
  • Working pattern: Balanced Hybrid working; encouraged to work half your time in a Scottish Water location
  • Location: Based in Edinburgh; must be a Scottish taxpayer with home address in Scotland (or commit to moving within first three months)
