Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Role Purpose

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support our Commercial and Delivery Teams while developing the skills and knowledge needed to progress toward becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor. This role is ideal for someone currently studying or looking to begin a degree in Quantity Surveying. You will gain hands‑on experience working with a variety of contract types, including NEC4, and will be supported through structured training and mentoring.

The Role

Location and Hours

• Based at our HQ in Midsomer Norton
• Expected to travel to Client sites, offices and study locations as required
• Contracted to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing and understanding client contracts, learning how to identify key commercial risks and opportunities
• Support the preparation of monthly commercial reports, ensuring information is accurate and submitted on time
• Help manage project invoicing by gathering progress information and learning how to prepare applications for payment
• Contribute to the change control process by helping track variations and understanding how they are valued and agreed
• Work with Delivery Teams to monitor project costs, budgets, and forecasts, developing your ability to analyse financial performance
• Assist with setting up client contracts and subcontract agreements to ensure commercial information is captured correctly
• Support procurement activities, including tender reviews, subcontractor comparisons, and negotiation preparation
• Learn how to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, and relevant legislation
• Contribute ideas to improve commercial processes, reporting tools, and ways of working
• Understand how health, safety, and sustainability considerations influence commercial decisions

Skills and Experience

Required

• Confidence using Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Good communication and willingness to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders
• A proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and ability to manage deadlines
• Full UK driving license & own transport
• Currently studying for, or willingness to start studying for, a Quantity Surveying or related degree
