About the Role
As Assystem's PM&C team is growing, we are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major capital investment and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will provide commercial and contractual expertise across the full project lifecycle, ensuring cost management, risk control, procurement support, and commercial governance on complex construction and engineering programmes.
Working within a multi-disciplinary project team, the postholder will play a key role in maintaining commercial performance, providing accurate forecasting, managing change, and supporting successful project delivery in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain complete project cost plans and cost estimates to support the governance and procurement processes
- Manage project budget ensuring value for money and validation of costs through the use of appropriate internal and external benchmarks
- Assess contractor's payment applications in accordance with the contract
- Perform monthly cost reporting, including provision of Anticipated Final Cost, Actual Cost of Work Performed and Forecast to Completion
- Manage the administration of NEC Option A, C and E
- Manage all contract communication including creating and distributing action lists, meeting minutes, Early Warnings, PMIs and CEs and accepting/rejecting Contractors Notifications
- Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, planners and relevant stakeholders
- Build effective relationships with contractors and supply chain partners
- Support the tendering and evaluation process including selection of appropriate procurement strategy and contract, and production of pre-tender estimates
- Support the maintenance of the project risk and opportunity register, developing mitigation strategies with the PMs
- Manage the close-out of all assigned projects, implementing close-out plans, warranties received and contracts closed, as well as completion of financial close-out
Qualifications
- A degree in quantity surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or similar discipline
- Chartered status with RICS, CICES, ICES, CIOB or equivalent professional body (or working towards chartership)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in quantity surveying or commercial management
- Good understanding of NEC suite of contracts and associated contract administration and negotiation
- Demonstrable experience in major infrastructure, transportation, aviation, rail, defence, utilities or civil engineering projects in the UK
- Strong understanding of procurement processes
- Experience in a cost engineer, contract management or commercial role within the construction or infrastructure sectors working on projects typically in excess of £1m
- Experienced using CEMAR is desirable
- Good IT skills including good understanding of Microsoft Excel. Experience of SAP or similar cost and project control management software desirable
- Good understanding of mathematical and financial reports
- Good oral and written communication skills
