About the Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will assist the commercial team in providing support to the contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cash management, cost control and accurate reporting of all schemes. The Quantity Surveyor plays an integral part in delivering exceptional commercial results. Core responsibilities encompass project delivery, commercial reporting and maximising profit.

Main Responsibilities

  • Capably submit applications and control credit processes
  • Demonstrate understanding of income forecast and pricing of variations
  • Demonstrate understanding of the change control system
  • Demonstrate understanding of project risk
  • Produce cost value reconciliation (CVRs) with support
  • Produce cost to complete with support
  • Demonstrate understanding of the production of forecasting data
  • Demonstrate understanding of the costing process
  • Demonstrate understanding of the management of the full sub-contract cycle and input into sub-contract documentation
  • Assist with weekly cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams
  • Upload documentation as and when necessary, in line with business requirements
  • Review weekly site records including allocation sheets and site diaries
  • Attend project progress meetings
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial performance reports
  • Gain experience outside of the commercial function to better understand the role of the business and the quantity surveyor within the business

Secondary Tasks and Duties

  • Work with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement
  • Commit to your own professional development, and that of others across the Business Unit
  • Undertake other tasks appropriate to the role of Trainee Quantity Surveyor, as identified by the Quantity Surveyor/Managing Surveyor

Expectations

Targets for the Quantity Surveyor will be set and reviewed on a 6 monthly basis, aligned with the responsibilities and behaviours listed within this job description. The Trainee Quantity Surveyor is expected to:

  • Independently contribute to prompt payment of sub-contracts and maintenance of sub-contract liabilities and other trackers
  • Maintain complete and well organised records
  • Contribute to the timely production of Cost and value reconciliations
  • Maintain a professional development log and commit to continuous improvement
