Business Development Manager

Salary: £40,000 Basic + KPI Bonus (OTE circa £45,000)

Location: Swanley, Kent

About the role

You'll play a pivotal role in driving new customer acquisition for a successful and growing business. This is not an account management role—it's for someone who loves the hunt.

You'll be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, engaging decision-makers, understanding their needs, and converting prospects into active trading customers. Your focus doesn't stop at securing the first order. You'll nurture each new customer through their first four purchases, ensuring they become established before handing them over to the sales team to continue the relationship.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively generate new business through high-volume outbound prospecting
  • Identify potential customers and uncover opportunities to win their business
  • Build trust quickly and develop strong commercial relationships
  • Understand customer challenges and present solutions that add genuine value
  • Manage prospects through the onboarding journey and secure their first four orders
  • Re-engage lapsed customers and win back lost spend
  • Update CRM records accurately and report daily activity against KPIs
  • Manage workload effectively to maximise selling time and productivity

  • Confident communicator who builds rapport quickly
  • Commercially minded with excellent questioning and listening skills
  • Organised, disciplined and able to manage their own pipeline effectively
  • Positive, energetic and driven to continually improve
  • Previous experience in business development, sales, telesales, lead generation or outbound B2B sales would be highly advantageous

  • Quality outbound calls per week
  • Building a pipeline worth £100,000+ in potential customer spend
  • Converting opportunities into active trading customers in line with agreed targets

Employment details

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm (with flexibility of up to 30 minutes on start/finish times)
