Senior/Principal Town Planner

About the role

Join Ramboll's Town Planning team to close the gap to a sustainable future. You will bring your current knowledge of Town Planning into play as you take the lead, or help lead on planning applications, strategy and providing day to day planning advice. You will have the opportunity to grow and drive sustainable change through all stages in the project lifecycle across both development and infrastructure projects.

To succeed in this role, you will work with others to apply a broad understanding of Town Planning in the UK, in all stages of the project lifecycle from early-stage feasibility/risk appraisal, through to delivery of planning conditions, obligations and scheme revision.

You will need the skills to disseminate and convey changes in the planning system across Ramboll, to Clients and the team in which you will work. You should have an aspiration to or currently be capable of forming good Client relationships. Ramboll encourages teams to work toward such relationships, rather than advise solely on a project basis.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with senior members of the team to advise on planning strategy, and project managing applications and appeals across a broad range of sectors
  • Work towards or lead others in such work, being a core part of Ramboll's Town Planning team and be recognised as a key person within the team
  • Contribute to business development activities where appropriate, including the preparation of fee proposals, tender submissions, marketing materials and presentations, but most importantly, be willing to engage with Clients
  • Support the team's leadership and wider management with team functions, including, where appropriate, mentoring junior members of the team
  • Develop relationships, build networks and collaborate with Ramboll's technical specialists
  • Represent Ramboll at meetings with clients and at networking events, where appropriate

Your new team

You will be part of Ramboll's wider Development team, working on both development and infrastructure projects. This is part of the Global Impact Assessment Service Line which has been especially successful in driving further growth, targeting large, strategic projects – though not exclusively. Projects are wide ranging and diverse and include housing, mixed use, regeneration, energy, highways and data centres.

More widely, Ramboll's UK business employs experts across 19 locations and covers a breadth of consulting services structured around Town Planning and impact assessment, compliance, strategy and transactions, new initiatives and sustainability, product safety and stewardship, contaminated land, and Water. Ramboll's clients include UK and global multinationals, utilities, local and central government and international institutions.

Ramboll works flexibly and you will be part of an exciting team of experts, who respect each other and work towards a common goal.

About you

We have identified some qualifications, skills, and capabilities that will set you up for success:

  • 5 years+ of experience
  • A degree in Town Planning or a related degree and/or Post Graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline
  • Professional Membership of the RTPI
  • Project delivery and Town Planning experience
  • The ability to manage your own workload and work to deadlines
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral, with the ability to liaise with colleagues and maintain good client relationships
  • A keenness for professional development and progression

What we can offer you

  • Hybrid working, with a competitive salary
  • An attractive and competitive benefits package including, but not limited to, matched pension contributions, Private medical cover and life assurance; travel insurance, generous annual leave and paternity/maternity leave
  • Strong company commitment and ethos centred on sustainable development, including in the property sector
  • Investment in your development
  • Leaders you can count on, guided by our Leadership Principles
  • Never being short of inspiration from colleagues, clients, and projects

How to apply

Please submit your application. Be sure to include all relevant documents including your CV and cover letter.

We recognise that some candidates only apply when they tick every box. However, passion and potential often outweigh a perfect resume, and Ramboll's supportive learning culture can help you grow.
